Staff and students from Abbey Park School and Lydiard Park Academy in Swindon, are today celebrating GCSE results as exams return to pre-pandemic grading.
In 2020 and 2021 GCSE results were decided by centre or teacher assessment and last year’s exams saw a larger package of Ofqual exam support measures in place.
Recognising that this year’s GCSE students would still need extra reassurance due to the disruption caused by the pandemic, the Trust provided students with a high level of wellbeing support and guidance, in addition to excellent teaching.
Students secured excellent results, including:
Lydiard Park Academy
Lily Wells: Five Grade 9s, Four Grade 8s, One Grade 5
Liam Johnson: Four Grade 9s, Five Grade 8s, 1 Grade 7
Sienna Wileman Two Grade 9s, Three Grade 8s, One Grade 7 and Three Grade 6s
Isabella Yeow: One Grade 9, Four Grade 8s, Four Grade 7s and a Level 2 Distinction
Abbey Park School

Evie Parfitt: Three Grade 9s, Four Grade 8s and Three Grade 7s

Abbey Park School Principal Jon Young said: “Today’s GCSE results make me so proud of all the hard work our students put into preparing for this year’s exams. Our staff have been there for our GCSE students at every step of the way and it’s so satisfying to see their resilience and ambition reflected in the grades that have been achieved."
Lydiard Park Academy Principal Gary Pearson said:
“Staff at Lydiard Park Academy, and across The Park Academies Trust, have once again gone above and beyond to ensure our students have been well looked after - with a particular focus on their wellbeing. It’s wonderful to see so many great results, in all subjects, which are a testament to the excellent standard of teaching we are so proud of, but most importantly to the commitment of our students to do their very best.”
Benedick Ashmore-Short, CEO, The Park Academies Trust said:
“Congratulations to all our students and staff for a set of fantastic GCSE results. Their determination and dedication shine through the overall results across The Park Academies Trust. This year, exams have been graded close to pre-pandemic standards so these results have been achieved despite all the significant challenges over recent years. It’s therefore all the more inspiring to see that all the hard work has really paid off. I’m delighted to see staff, students and families feeling so proud of everyone’s achievements.”
Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP said:
“Pupils receiving their results at Abbey Park School and Lydiard Park Academy, and across the country, should feel very proud today. I want to congratulate them all and express my gratitude to all of the teachers and leaders who have helped them on the way. GCSEs are a milestone in any young person’s life, and pupils collecting results today have the opportunity to progress onto one of many high-quality options including A levels, T Levels and hundreds of apprenticeship routes. I wish them all the best whatever they decide to do.”
