The hopes and dreams of Swindon school children will be displayed on a poster billboard on Newport Street in Old Town as part of an aspirational campaign to get youngsters to Dream Big about their future home and career.

Mortgage specialists South West Mortgages are asking children between the ages of eight and twelve about their dream jobs and dream homes.

The family friendly business based on Commercial Road and now Old Town too, is asking parents to submit their children's aspirations online.

Six children will be chosen from all the entries to front the campaign, showcasing a cross-section of childhood ambition.

During a photoshoot they'll be dressed for their dream job, with the kind of place they'd like to live as a backdrop.

As well as towering above all their friends from a three metre-tall billboard, campaign organisers will be arranging for the children to spend an 'experience day' in their dream job, learning more about the career they want to pursue.

David Dobbin, Managing Director of South West Mortgages explained: "I have two sons and their aspirations change as they become influenced by the world they see around them.  I want to showcase the great stories of some of the children of Swindon to inspire other children to dream about what their futures could hold.”

Like many graduates, David was attracted to the town in 1998 by the abundance of well-paid employment and the availability of affordable housing.

He gained industry experience within Portman Building Society, Legal & General, Zurich and other power houses within the Financial Services industry before establishing South West Mortgages 19 years ago to offer house-hunters and homeowners renewing their mortgage arrangements better access to help and advice – helping adults fulfil their own home-life and career ambitions.

The abundance of good jobs and affordable accommodation are still a big draw for young professionals. House prices are relatively cheaper compared to neighbouring Bristol, Bath and Oxford, and the town benefits from a good mix of housing stock – from new-builds and conversion apartments to historic railway terraces, smart town houses, and post-war semis with good-sized gardens which are still a big draw for young professionals.

A recent piece of research commissioned by Nationwide Building Society for marketing board Switch on to Swindon found that the town was a big draw for 'aspirational homeowners' who are attracted to a lively town surrounded by beautiful countryside, within easy reach of cities like Bristol, Bath, and London.

Parents can submit their child’s entry in the the Dream Big campaign at www.dreambigswindon.com before 10th April 2020.
