Another great year of Swindon A-Level and T-Level results

Swindon’s A-Level and T-Level students are celebrating another year of excellent results across the borough.

A total of 1,123 students took their A-Levels across Swindon, with a further 233 students completing their T-Levels, which are technical qualifications. 

The A* - E pass rate is 95 percent (for Swindon students including Cirencester college) and for A - B it is 38.1 percent (for Swindon students including Cirencester college).

The pass rate (A* - E) went up from 92 per cent in 2023 to 95 per cent in 2024.

Annette Perrington, Swindon Borough Council's Director of Education, Inclusion and Skills, visited New College, in Queens Drive to support and celebrate those students who received their A-Level and T-Level results. 

Annette spoke to Jordan and Keira who have both completed T-Levels in Midwifery and have had industry standard experience from the start of their course, which they feel has helped them achieve their move into higher education and training.

Keira is off to university to study Midwifery and Jordan is going into a Level 4 Police Apprenticeship. They both felt that taking T-Levels was the best choice for them and would encourage all young people to consider it themselves.

New College Principal Leah Palmer said: “We're delighted with our young people’s results today. Our overall achievement has improved by 7.5 per cent for A-Levels and our T-Levels destinations are reflective of the fantastic industry standard experience. 

“What is so pleasing is that more students are choosing New College as their FE option both for A-Levels and for T-Levels. 

“For T-Levels, New College has the highest retention rate nationally. We’re very proud of all our students and staff who have worked so diligently with them all.”

Cllr Adorabelle Amaral Shaikh, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Results day is a huge moment for any young person and I want to say a big well done to everyone for the hard work they’ve put in to achieve their results.

“While some may receive results they did not expect, it’s important to remember that it’s not the end of the world and that there are plenty of options open to them.

“I’d like to wish all our students the very best for the future, whether they continue into further education or embark into the world of employment.

“I’d also like to thank all the teachers, support staff, governors, parents and guardians for their hard work and for supporting these people through these challenging times.”
