Great Western Academy wins Building Excellence Award

Great Western Academy has been announced as the South West regional winner for the prestigious Building Excellence Awards 2019 in the category of “Best Educational Building”. This is awarded for building design excellence and the delivery of outstanding construction and workmanship.

Great Western Academy was designed by architects Scott Brownrigg and built by BAM Construction during 2017 and 2018.  Having opened in September 2018, the Academy’s design includes modern, state of the art facilities for Science, Design and Technology and the Creative Arts (Music, Drama and Dance). Sports facilities include a four court Sports Hall, three outdoor football pitches, and a multi-use games area.

The awards celebrate achievements in the building industry and reward excellent buildings, outstanding companies, partnerships and individuals that go the extra mile. The regional awards ceremony was held on Friday 12^th July 2019 in Bristol; GWA now progresses to the national awards, due to be held in London on 8^th November.

Graham Davis, Principal of the Academy, said “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful building in which to work and learn. The light and space provide a fantastic environment which allows our students to thrive. Students in our first year 7 cohort have made exceptional progress, helped by their learning environment, and we look forward to welcoming new students in Year 7 and Year 12 in September.”

Great Western Academy will open its Sixth Form in September 2019 with the first cohort of students joining to study a wide range of A Level subjects. Open Evenings for prospective pupils will be held on 19^th and 25^th September (Year 6) and 16^th October (Sixth Form).
