Named after the last Lord of Lawn Manor, the houses Fitzroy, Pleydell and Goddard undertake a regular schedule of activities to earn points, with the winning house crowned at the end of each academic year.

Covering all subject areas, staff say the art competitions always attract excellent entries.

The current competition is themed around the Coronation and challenges pupils to draw or write about anything related to King Charles III.

Last term’s competition asked pupils to think about International Women’s Day and to draw a woman of their choice. This could have been a mum, family members or a famous person.

The overall winner, Year Nine pupil Keona, drew civil rights activist Rosa Parks. She explained her reasoning behind this choice, commenting: “she was a very inspirational woman to me because she stood up for what we believe in.”

Head of Art and Head of Pupil Development and Character, Caireen Young, leads the house system and art competitions.

She said: “We are so proud of our pupils at Lawn Manor and the time and effort they put in to their art work.  The house art competitions always attract high quality entries and gives pupils a chance to reflect on current affairs and what’s going on in the world around them.

“The entries are all done in their own time and so to see so much effort put into each entry is really great.”

Last year’s house competition was won by Pleydell house and competition is said to be fierce as the school now approaches the end of the academic year to see who will be crowned the winning house this year.

Lawn Manor Academy is part of the Ascend Learning Trust. More information about the secondary school can be found by visiting its website at www.lawnmanor.org.
