Students celebrated a year of great effort and performance at the annual New College Student Awards Ceremony.
Winning students, their families, staff, VIPs, governors and employers gathered in the Phoenix Theatre with a ceremony hosted by Principal and CEO Carole Kitching.
The awards are intended to recognise hard work and outstanding achievement, and there were 24 accolades across three categories.
The Faculty Awards recognise the dedication of students within their individual course areas. A total of 12 students won these awards, including Lauren Millin, who won Professional and Digital Student of the year (sponsored by Sinewave), while Maths and Science Student of the Year Award (sponsored by Catalent) was won by Alexander Henstridge.
Amanda Spanswick, Assistant Principal for Maths and Science said of Alexander: “Alex has been an outstanding student and a pleasure to teach. He consistently achieved very highly in the whole two years, in all of his subjects and was one of three students who entered the national Biology Olympiad.”
The second set of awards presented were the Legacy Awards. These are named awards honouring past students, lecturers, and local representatives. Finally, The Spotlight Awards (sponsored by Panottoni), included the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Student of the Year, won by Ellie Mae Bryant.
Guests arrived to the playing of pianist and first year creative music student Malachi Wallace, and the college’s band played a few Jimi Hendrix tunes during the intermission. A canape´ reception gave an opportunity for the winners and their guests to mix and chat about the awards.
Interim Vice Principal Mary Prince said: “It was a brilliant evening. It was wonderful to be able to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students in such a lovely way, especially after the challenges faced during the pandemic.
"We’d like to thank those employers who sponsored awards and for their involvement in helping provide employability opportunities for our students and support in helping to shape our curriculum. The night really does belong to the students who were very worthy winners”.
