Noremarsh Junior School welcomed award-winning author and illustrator, Mariajo Ilustrajo, for an illustration workshop, 'discovering the joy of creativity'.
Pupils at Noremarsh Junior School were delighted to meet award winning author, Mariajo Ilustrajo, whose books include ‘Lost’, ‘I Love Books’ and ‘Flooded’.
Mariajo, who is a Spanish illustrator based in the UK, invited all children to create the characters from her picture book in an interactive workshop that lasted for the morning.
In addition to the creative drawing, Mariajo held a question-and-answer session with the children, who were intrigued to know all about her books and career. She told the children of how her passion to write had led her to complete a master’s degree.
She went on to explain how her book ‘Flooded’ took a long time to illustrate and how the decision to make the book black and white had come from wanting the water to stand out along with the heroic monkey’s yellow tail.
Hilary MacMeekin, Headteacher at Noremarsh Junior School said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Mariajo into the school. I know that the children will have been in awe at her illustrations.
"As a school we love reading and welcoming new authors into school, and we work hard to ensure that all of our children have the opportunity to benefit from these experiences.”
