Staff and pupils at Hazelwood Academy, an AET school, are celebrating another year’s superb performance in national examinations.

The current year 6 children outperformed national averages in reading, writing, maths, punctuation and grammar.

Pupils aged between 10 and 11 are tested on their knowledge and ability in maths and English, taking tests at school in May, with the results published this week.

Youngsters at Hazelwood improved on scores from last year by an exceptional 34 percentage points, achieving 87% against a national average of 61%. The overall average across all key stage 2 pupils in the AET network was 76%.

Suzanne Lloyd, Headteacher at Hazelwood Academy, said: “A huge well done to each and every one of our children on the achievement of these fabulous results!

"I am constantly impressed by the hard work and dedication to learning that our pupils show over the course of their time at Hazelwood Academy and today's results are testament to the ambition and hard work of the pupils and their teachers.”

Ruth Murad, AET Primary Director of Education said: “Congratulations to all at Hazelwood Academy on such a great set of results. Not only do these results exceed the national average, they are also better than our target set by our trust, showing just how much progress we have made across our schools.

"These results are due to a tremendous amount of hard work from pupils and staff, and I am so proud of them all. At AET we are dedicated to providing the best possible environment for our pupils and results like this are a brilliant achievement.”
