Grange Junior School in Swindon, part of The White Horse Federation, has been celebrating the victory of its U11 girls’ football team following their success in a regional tournament.

Eight pupils from Year 6 at Grange Junior School took part in the Premier League Primary Star U11 Girls Regional tournament, which took place at Foundation Park in Swindon on Thursday 6 March 2025.

Grange Junior School won four matches against regional teams and drew in two matches. Finishing second in their group, they went on to the semi-finals, winning on penalties.

In the final against Newport County, they scored the one goal they needed to win the tournament, breaking Newport's incredible defensive line. Grange Junior School is now through to the Nationals in June.

Miss Hollie, Year 5 teacher and coach, said: “Throughout the whole tournament the girls showed excellent teamwork and determination in all their games.

"Since September, I have seen how much commitment the girls put into their training and games, so it has been amazing to see all their hard work come to fruition. As their coach, I couldn't be prouder of their achievement.”

Mrs Gordon, headteacher at Grange Junior School, said: “We are so incredibly proud of what the girls have achieved and the commitment and resilience they demonstrated.

"A huge well done to Newport for an amazing performance too, and to Exeter City who won against Cheltenham to secure their place in the nationals later this year.

"We are excited about the next stage of the competition in June and hope this is the beginning of many more victories.”
