The final preparations are being made for the 'best ever' North Swindon Fun Day which kicks off tomorrow (Saturday 3 September) at 1pm.

This year’s event at Brook Park in Redhouse (opposite Isambard Community School), is sponsored by Swindon Link Magazine, Crest Nicholson Homes and the parish councils of Haydon Wick and Blunsdon.

Organising secretary, Wayne Sims said: "The 2016 chosen charity is Butterflies Family Centre which works across North Swindon. Their tent will have well known children’s author Neil Griffiths on hand to meet, mingle and answer questions. Local residents will be aware that Swindon Borough Council has withdrawn funding to family centres, so this will be a great opportunity to support Tanya and the team, as they search for ways of continuing their valuable work. Raffle tickets will be available before the day, so do look out for these as well.”

The fun kicks off at 1pm and runs through to 6pm. A sound stage will feature various local acts, local brewer Three Castles will host a real ale and cider tent and there will be everything on hand for families from face painting to bungee jumping.

Foodies can choose between pig roast, ‘Bob’s Brownies’ or perhaps more genteel tea and cake courtesy of the local WI.

This year’s event will be tinged with sadness following the recent unexpected death of founder committee member and local campaigner Michelle Amore.  NSFD Treasurer John Stooke said: “Michelle passed away at the end of June following a short illness which she bore with characteristic optimism, courage and good humour. Her ‘baby’ in the show was the Victorian Tea Tent which she repeatedly organised with such flair and success. We are pleased to say the local WI are coming this year to dispense their particular brand of hospitality.”
