Swindon Wildcats accepted the Mayor's invitation for a meet and greet at the Civic Offices including a tour with tea and cake.

Swindon Wildcats, based at West Swindon's Better Link Centre, formed back in the last 80s and are currently playing in the National Ice Hockey League. Most recently the team confirmed their National Cup Semi-Final home game for Wednesday 14 February.

Swindon's Mayor, who has attended many of Swindon Wildcats' home games, invited the local ice hockey squad to her parlour this afternoon.

Sally Price, Swindon Wildcats' Commercial Manager, said: "Wildcat players were over the moon to be invited to tea with the Mayor last Friday, we had such a great visit. Turns out our Mayor Maureen Penny is actually quite the Wildcats fan.

"I've met Maureen at several local events in Swindon and we also support her chosen charity Jessie May, so our paths seem to cross quite often. After seeing Maureen attend a few games we decided to present Maureen with her own ice hockey jersey, which she was delighted with. Maureen then kindly offered to host tea at the Mayor's Parlour for some of the Swindon Wildcats players.

"The visit was lovely, we learnt some local history and looked around the Council Chamber which was very interesting. Maureen spoke so highly of our team, she commented on our recent community award and how impressed she is with all the community work we do, and how well the team are currently doing in the league. We all had tea and the lads enjoyed a cupcake each, some more than one! We had some great media support as well and there are some fantastic videos and commemorative photographs to show of our visit."

Cllr Maureen Penny added: "The Wildcats joined me in the Mayor's Parlour today to celebrate their run of wins in what was a very busy season. Ice hockey is a fast paced sport that the whole family can get involved in.

"On top of this Sam Bullas won an award for all the community work he does.  Sam said it's not just him, the whole team get involved. So well done Wildcats and keep it up."
