GALLERY: Ofsted inspection rate Commonweal School as a 'Good' place to learn

The Commonweal School have have been rated as 'Good' in all categories after their Ofsted inspection in November.

The inspection took place over two days with six inspectors on site.

Robert Linnegar, Headteacher, said: "We are an ambitious, restless and inclusive learning community, constantly trying to improve the education that we offer the students at Commonweal, and we are therefore particularly proud of the success that we had in improving the life chances of our scholars’ post 18.

"Paul Williams HMI stated in his report that the Sixth Form students 'follow study programmes which are carefully thought through and matched to their needs and aspirations.' He continued that 'teaching is well planned and helps students to learn quickly’' which meant that a higher proportion of pupils than seen nationally go on to secure places in education employment or training when they leave the school. The majority of students go on to take places on university courses.

‘We have high expectations of our students both in the classroom and beyond and the inspection team saw that students in the school are 'learning well and making good progress.' The ‘Commonweal Way’ is a charter by which our students conduct themselves and it has meant that behaviour, respect for each other and raised confidence helps to ensure effective learning outcomes.

"Parents are very positive and supportive and we always listen to individual needs. ‘’The behaviour of pupils is good…pupils are considerate and well-mannered’' and leave us as well rounded young adults, with academic success and a positive outlook who are ready to make a significant impact on the communities they live and work in."
