There are carol songs a plenty to get you in the festive spirit should you see Commonweal School on their Community Carol Singing Tour.

Today two groups of 15 will be touring residential nursing homes in Old Town to spread joy and happiness. The singers will also be performing at two supermarkets.

The groups are as follows:

  • 11am Ashbury Lodge, Marlborough Road
  • 12pm Connies Restaurant, Devizes Road
  • 15pm Princess Lodge, Curie Ave
  • 2.30pm to 4.30pm Asda West Swindon

Group Two

  • 11am Kings Court, Kent Road
  • 12pm Connies Restaurant, Devizes Road
  • 15pm Kingsmead Nursing home, Prospect Place
  • 2.30pm to 4.30pm Sainsburys, Bridgemead

The tour which has turned into an annual event was the idea of Josie Williams who was the school’s community art development officer.

Josie said: “As a performing arts school we wanted to reach as many people as possible, so one nursing home turned into two and then we had even more requests to the point that we now visit six homes and two supermarkets.

"The students love it and so do all who hear us. We’ve had residents and shoppers dancing with the children and joining in with the carols. It really is a joy to behold."

At lunchtime the two groups will come together and are treated to lunch at Connies Restaurant on Devizes Road before they go on to their next gig. This year the music department are collecting money to kit out their new Music block.
