The HRCR (Historic Rally Car Register) Open Day will take place on 13 January 2018 at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire.

As ‘the Home of Historic Rallying’, the HRCR Open Day is a social gathering where the rally community comes together to meet friends, view a selection of rally cars from the 50s through to the 80s and talk to organisers of the events that take place all over the country making up the 6 HRCR championships.

The theme for the 2018 HRCR Open Day will be the MG Metro 6R4 with a number of these models on display, including the Museums own car. Developed for Austin Rover by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, it is one of the most spectacular MG cars ever produced. The project was first revealed in 1984 and scored its first victory on the Gwynedd Rally in March 1985. Built to Group B regulations, the 6R4 featured a rear mounted 410 bhp naturally aspirated V6 engine coupled to a four wheel drive system. 200 vehicles were built to comply with the Group B homologation regulations with the ‘clubman version’ having a 240 bhp engine and capable of 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

The HRCR brings together all forms of the sport including Historic Road and Stage Rallying, Historic Endurance Rallying, Speed Events for historic vehicles and Scenic Tours. Visitors can talk with HRCR Championship organisers, register for the championships on the day and join the HRCR. Any member who recommends a friend on the day to join the HRCR will receive one of the popular HRCR navigation bags.

Tom Caren, Show Manager at the British Motor Museum stated “We are delighted to host the 2018 HRCR and celebrate the Metro 6R4 Rally Cars.

"For those interested in classic rallying this nostalgic event will be a great day out and a fantastic opportunity to see so many rally cars on display.”

Entry to the HRCR Open Day is free of charge and attendees can visit the Museum on the day for the discounted rate of £9 per person.  The Open Day is open from 10:00am – 3.00pm with the Museum open from 10am – 5pm.
