New arrivals at Abbey Meads Community Primary School got a sneak peek of the new nursery with a teddy bears’ picnic.
Nearly 50 children came along to the school for the picnic which took place under a gazebo in the school playing field. The 48 children and their parents chatted with teachers, who gave them an informal introduction to how the school works. The picnic gave children a chance to wear bear ears and bring their favourite teddies.
Assistant head Donna Wright said: “Creating stronger bonds with parents early on is very important. This process allows for a smoother transition into the school for both the children and parents alike.” The new nursery is due to open in September and will include an extended age range. New starters at the school will experience a play-based early years foundation curriculum. September starting places are still available for those whose children who will be three years old by the end of August 2017. However, next year an admissions policy will be put in place requiring certain regulations including that they fall within the school catchment area.
