Swindon’s historic Lydiard House Museum has recently unveiled its Christmas plans as staff prepare for the festive season.
The council-owned museum will be inviting visitors to 'step back in time' and experience the decorated halls of Lydiard House this festive season.
From Wednesday, 30 November, the State Rooms of the Grade I listed house will be decorated with traditional Christmas decorations including foliage arrangements produced by the Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club.
The museum team say the foliage will add splendour and festivity to mantle-pieces and doorways throughout the house.
Cllr Matty Courtliff, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Heritage, Leisure, and Town Centre Experience, said: “We’re thrilled to be offering visitors a Country House Christmas experience this December and we are extremely grateful to Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club for decorating the stately home once again.
“Christmas can be a busy time for many, and we hope that the displays at Lydiard House Museum provide a memorable way for families to spend some quality time together over the festive season.”
A Country House Christmas runs from Wednesday, 30 November - Friday, 23 December.
Lydiard House Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am - 4pm (with last admission at 3.30pm).
Tickets can be purchased online or from the house on the day.
Admission to Lydiard House costs £5 for an adult, and £2.75 for a child (Under 3s go free). Family tickets are also available.
Lydiard House Museum has also teamed up with the Friends of Lydiard Park to offer curated tours of the historic house. The museum team say many dates are now fully booked, and members of the public should not delay if they wish to attend a tour.
Due to popular demand Collections and Exhibitions Manager, John Wood, will be leading a guided Christmas tour on Thursday 15 December.
Tickets for this tour will cost £15 for an adult - which also includes a delicious festive afternoon tea. Staff say spaces must be booked in advance through the Lydiard Park website.
Lydiard House will close for the season on Friday, 23 December, after which it will reopen in the spring on Saturday, 1 April 2023.
