A free film and screen club for eligible 13-16 year old's is being launched in Swindon this month.
National Saturday Club and Create Studios, a Film Production and Talent Development C.I.C. in Swindon, have announced a new and free programme designed to empower aspiring filmmakers and screen enthusiasts.
Starting in early November, selected local teenagers can join the Film&Screen Saturday Club, offering them a unique opportunity to explore their creativity and potential career paths in the film industry.
This club is part of the National Saturday Club's established nationwide initiative, with up to 130 Saturday Clubs set to run across the UK by 2025.
It provides young people aged 13-16 with free access to study subjects they love at local universities, colleges, or cultural institutions.
Welcoming those from underrepresented backgrounds, the programme recognises the vital role extracurricular activities play in developing problem-solving, persistence, and collaboration skills, helping participants explore future career options.
The Film&Screen Saturday Club is a vibrant exploration of the expansive world of film and screen, covering production, editing, sound design, VFX, scripting, and animation.
Club members have an unparalleled opportunity to bring their unique stories to life, gaining practical skills in filming, editing, sound design, and lighting, essential for excelling in the industry. This course honours the powerful art of storytelling, emphasising its ability to entertain and enrich society and culture.
Create Studios, a dynamic team dedicated to filmmaking's positive impact, focuses on supporting Swindon's local economy, creating jobs for young people, and creating a new wave of UK creatives and filmmakers.
Participants benefit from an immersive course led by experienced filmmakers, animators, producers, and creatives. These industry professionals provide hands-on guidance, ensuring practical skills and insights are gained.
Lucy Kennedy, Chief Executive at National Saturday Club, said: "It's wonderful to launch this new club in Swindon. We've seen firsthand how vital it is to provide young people with transformative extracurricular opportunities, for free, that nurture their potential and provide pathways to success.
“Saturday Clubs allow young people to develop skills, build confidence, and find joy in learning, regardless of their background. This is one of many new Clubs starting this year nationwide, and we look forward to growing and offering more access to this enriching opportunity."
As part of the National Saturday Club, students access additional events, including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals, a Summer Show exhibiting their work at London’s Somerset House, and a Graduation Ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
Young people eager to participate are encouraged to check the eligibility criteria.
