Thousands of people flocked to Victoria Road and Wood Street for the Old Town Christmas Festival.
It was the first event of its kind since 2019 because of restrictions imposed during the pandemic.
The switch-on was performed by headliner Duncan James from multimillion-selling boyband Blue, and the entertainment on the bill also included Phoebe Maddison, Ministry of Samba, Lawn Manor School of Dance and Robbie Williams tribute act Marc Hopkins.
There were food and drink stalls and a funfair on Wood Street.
The decision by event organisers the Old Town Business Association to expand the celebration into Victoria Road was praised by many visitors, as it prevented the overcrowding which had become an issue at the popular event in recent years.
