Home and Garden

With the cost of living on the rise, you may feel like redesigning your home is no longer feasible. However, this may not always be the case. In fact, there are plenty of ways that you can change the look and feel of your living room without needing to tweak every single aspect or make drastic changes.

Thankfully, smaller décor choices can have a large effect for a rather small cost. You can also make your money stretch even further by implementing these changes yourself!

Read on to find out how you can alter your living room for less.

Decorating the walls

Changing the walls doesn’t have to involve getting a building team in or completely repainting them. While this may be something you want to explore in the future, if you’re hoping to keep your budget down it’s simply not an option right now.

However, while saving up for these larger changes, you may want to consider using art to change the space in the here and now. Companies such as hello canvas can create bespoke canvas prints of your favourite personal pictures which you could then hang up on the walls.

You might want to consider having a large statement canvas hung up above your sofa or spread out a number of smaller prints across your chosen space. For the smallest of budgets, you could consider purchasing a couple of small canvases to hang now and then add to them as and when you have the funds available, slowly building up a collage over time.

Changing the wood

Skirting boards and doors can often be overlooked when it comes to room design. For the most part, you may find that they are all painted in the same colour. While this can help to make a room look neutral, it may not say a lot about your personality.

You might not need a decorator to help with this, even if you have panel doors in that room. Sanding them down to remove old paint, and then evenly painting them a fresher colour, could help to update these surfaces in an instant. If you’re hoping to make a bit of a statement consider adding a pop of colour to infuse a bit more character to the room.

Make the most of flooring

Completely changing the tiles, carpet, or wood flooring in your living room can be both expensive and an extensively large project. When you want to alter the appearance of your living room on a budget, you may want to consider the features you could add instead.

Opting for a good-quality rug can make the room feel that much more homely. In spaces such as the living room, you may want to consider how often it will be walked on. If this is a high-traffic area, it could be a good idea to choose a rug made from durable materials that are less likely to wear thin. Rug sizes and prices can vary, so you may want to shop around to pick something that is more likely to suit the space available as well as your budget.

Changing your living room doesn’t always need to involve lots of work and expense. Making more minor alterations could give you that satisfaction with the room to change more in the future.
