The Mechanics Institution Trust is looking for new Trustees to join its Board.

The Trust is moving into its next major phase of work, caring for its existing portfolio of buildings in Swindon’s historic Railway Village.

This includes reopening the Baker’s Café and Central Community Centre closed by the Coronavirus lockdown, restoring the former Cricketer’s Arms pub for new social uses and working closely with its partners, Swindon Borough Council, Historic England, Swindon Heritage Action Zone and the Theatres Trust, in the rescue and regeneration of the sadly derelict and deteriorating former Mechanics Institution building presently owned by a private developer.

The Trust's vision is that “The Trust will play a leading role in revitalising the Mechanics Institution; assist in the regeneration of the Railway Village; engage our membership and serve the wider community.”

Trust Chair, David Thackray said: “We are an energetic organisation, working with confidence to preserve the heritage buildings of Swindon’s Railway Village with renewed vigour, contributing to the economic, social and cultural growth of the area and Swindon more widely.”

Why not consider joining the trust? It’s not too time consuming and you will play a pivotal role in giving this iconic building a future to match its illustrious past – to find out more about these opportunities and to receive an information pack please contact David Thackray, Chair, on 07971233282 or apply by email to [email protected]
