Top Gardens and Green Spaces in Swindon to Take the Kids This Summer

With the summer holidays almost upon us, it’s a great time to start preparing your daily activities and work out what you’re going to do with each day. Swindon is a beautiful location surrounded by amazing gardens and outdoor spaces that you and the kids can enjoy, and we’ve selected our favourite places to give you some inspiration for your summer activities.

  1. Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Our first spot is the magical National Arboretum, Westonbirt. Boasting 15,000 specimens, this stunning forest location is the ideal place for you and the family to escape, relax and explore. Westonbirt provides a magical tree garden with trees from all across the globe, adding a fun educational element to your trip too. With the children in mind, Westonbirt have their very own ‘I Spy’ adventure, the opportunity for your little ones to explore the grounds on the hunt for Birt the Woodchipper, who’s in need of their help to complete a number of activities throughout the forest.

  1. Avebury Manor and Garden, National Trust

Loose yourself in this gorgeous manor house, boasting five different design styles including Tudor, Queen Anne, Georgian, Victorian and the 20th Century. With its beautiful gardens, you can explore the large grounds, providing the perfect place for your little ones to run around and play. You may even find yourself soaking up the incredible landscapes and investing in some garden equipment to transform your own outdoor space this summer!   1. Heale Garden

With eight acres of stunning gardens that lie beside the river Avon at Middle Woodford, Heale Garden is a great location to visit on a lovely summer’s day. Dating back to 1651, this magical house is still much unchanged since King Charles II hid here, giving it so much history and character for you to explore. Grab yourself a picnic and head to this gorgeous house for an adventure filled day out with the kids.

Boasting 1300 years of history and one of the greatest gardens of the world, Malmesbury’s Abbey House Gardens provides you with hours of exploring, learning and adventure. Having featured on many television programmes, you may recognise it’s stunning architecture and landscapes that put this beautiful home on the map.
