More than 60 children and parents attended a special Playing Out event in Penhill.
These events see a street closed to allow children to play safely outside, and are designed to help children develop freedom to play out in the streets and spaces where they live.
This benefits their health, happiness and sense of belonging.
A council spokesperson said: "The day was co-ordinated between the Council Housing, Highways and Public Health teams, the National Literacy Trust, and Street Reps and saw a magician and chalk artist perform.
"Children were also donated new books and experienced a visit from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service.
"The Street reps were also on hand to keep everyone safe, distribute water and ensure the children are being looked after.
"We are keen to support residents to co-ordinate a free playstreet close to them."
