The Redcliffe Collective are inviting children in Swindon to design a mural arch, and will bring the winning entry to life in the town.

The Redcliffe Collective are welcoming youngsters in the community to design their very own mural arch artwork, similar to the archways they have been working on in Redcliffe Street.

The lucky winner of the competition will have their design brought to life in one of the Collective's future community projects.

A spokesperson from the art group said: "As you know our first mural on Redcliffe Street features 10 archways mirroring the iconic architecture found on the GWR Works building in the area.

"We assigned each archway to a different local artist and gave them creative freedom to design and paint something beautiful inspired by Swindon’s rich heritage. Now it's your turn!"

More information on the Collective's Rodbourne project can be found at https://swindonlink.com/lifestyle/redcliffe-collective-rodbourne-mural/

Individuals can download the archway template from www.youngartistcompetition.co and start their designing.

The brief given from the Collective is as follows:

"Imagine an empty archway and fill it with what's important to you! What do you love about our home? What makes you beam like the sun with joy? What do you love about Swindon and Wiltshire?"

Once their child has designed their entry, parents or carers can take a photo of the artwork and post it on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok) and tag the Collective by using the hashtag #TheRedcliffeCollective. The group are reminding those using social media to upload their designs, that they will need to capitalise the T, R and C in The Redcliffe Collective, to ensure the hashtag works correctly.

The art group are also asking for the young artist's name and age, and a short description or explanation about the design to be included in the social media post.

The Redcliffe Collective will then judge all the entries and will announce the winner on 15 August on their Instagram and Facebook pages.

The Collective have listed the competition's three rules:

  • This competition is open to ages 12 and under
  • Only one entry is allowed per child
  • All entries must be received by midnight on Sunday 31 July 2022
