The Roy Orbison Story to visit Swindon

Barry Steele and a full cast of singers and musicians will take to the Wyvern Stage to bring the story of Roy Orbison to life for an 85th anniversary celebration.

The team of performers behind The Roy Orbison Story will be embarking on the 85th anniversary tour this year. 

The tour is celebrating 85 years of Roy Orbison and the show will visit the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon on Friday, 18 February. 

A spokesperson for the event said: "So do you think you know what’s in The Roy Orbison Story – we can assure you it’s a bit different. Barry Steele and a fabulous cast of musicians and singers will take you on the continuing musical journey in the 85th Anniversary Tour from The Black and White Night right through to The Traveling Wilburys and beyond – With so much more in between.

"They promise they’ll have you dancing in the aisles, in an evening packed with Rock and Soul."

In 1963 Roy Orbison performed for the first time at The Adelphi in Slough. In December 2018 the Roy Orbison Story then performed at The Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End.

In 1988 Orbison also joined ‘The Travelling Wilburys.’ This moment in musical history is also celebrated within The Roy Orbison Story performance as the finale involves the whole cast coming together to celebrate the supergroup.

The show's spokesperson continues: "In 2017 Roy Orbison's songs were remastered by The Philharmonic Orchestra. The Roy Orbison Story production proudly presents their versions of these masterpieces. In The Roy Orbison Story, you’ll think they’ve got it when they perform You got it."

American musician, Chris Isaak, has collected many awards on behalf of The Orbison Family. He also recorded many of Roy Orbison’s songs throughout his career. The Roy Orbison Story team said they wish to return the compliment with Barry Steele performing versions of Isaak's Blue Hotel and Wicked Game.

Barry Steele and his group have also noted the collaborations between Roy Orbison and KD Lang. Within their stage show, the band will present a song written by Roy, recorded by KD and sung by Barry Steele.

Steele is also authorised by Orbison Enterprises to sell official merchandise.
