Swindon's National Self Build & Renovation Centre is to host its first live event since returning from lockdown.

Its open day actually runs throughout this weekend - July 25 and 26 - and visitors will be welcomed from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sunday.

Centre bosses promise carefully designed features to ensure visitors enjoy an informative and safe event.

As live indoor performances still cannot take place under current regulations, the NSBRC has filmed some helpful talks on home building which will be shown in its ‘Self Build Cinema’.  New educational audio tours have also been prepared, which visitors can listen to - using their own headphones and smart phones - while walking around the NSBRC’s life-size houses and exhibits.

Special measures have been put in place to ensure the UK’s only permanent home building visitor centre is covid-19 secure, including implementing social distancing and additional cleaning routines.

From Friday, face coverings are mandatory in all shops and, as a unique show-room environment, the NSBRC has embraced this rule to ensure everybody can feel confident about visiting and engaging with staff and exhibitors.

NSBRC Managing Director Harvey Fremlin said: "We have been really pleased with the number of people who have visited us since we re-opened last month.

"People have respected our new safety measures and obviously understand the need for them.  They are still as keen as ever to view the hundreds of different products and innovations that are on show at the NSBRC.

"We are excited about welcoming visitors to what is one of the first live events since lockdown.  It will feel slightly different, especially with everyone wearing face coverings, but I think we’re all happy to do so if it means we can get back to some normality’.

The National Self Build & Renovation Centre is now from Tuesdays to Sundays. All visits must be booked in advance via nsbrc.co.uk or by calling the team on 0345 223 4455.

The NSBRC is at Lydiard Fields near Junction16 of the M4, next door to the Doubletree Hilton hotel, and offers plenty of free parking.
