Spring events for all at Avebury

The National Trust has announced a series of special Spring attractions at historic Avebury.

The Avebury Manor Garden sensory map will run from 10-18 Feb from 11am–4pm.

Described as perfect for neurodivergent visitors or younger families, this map is free to use and takes people around the garden, using their senses to find the best places to listen to the wind, smell the herbs and look at the insects and wildlife.

Everyone will be able to discover something new. 

It is free to use, although normal admission charges apply. Booking is not required.

- Inspired by landscape - 10 February– 28 March, 10am–4pm 

 

From a background in art history, artist Sarah Hobley is fascinated by the imprint of our forebears on the Wiltshire landscape and how that imprint can be lost or conserved. 

People can visit the seventeenth century threshing barn in Avebury's old farmyard to see a small exhibition of her fantastic new pieces taking inspiration from the local landscape. All the pieces are for sale, starting from £60. 

Price: Free. Booking not required. 

Mother's Day craft -16 and 17 March, 11am – 4pm 

 

To celebrate Mothers Day at Avebury, children can pick up a craft pack in the barn in the Old Farmyard. From this pack, they will be able to make a lovely gift for their mother or another special person in their life.

This will take place in the barn in the Old Farmyard.  

Price: £2 per craft pack (normal admission applies). Booking not required. 

 

Family stone circle tour - every Wednesday and Sunday from 24 March, 11–11.45am and 1–1.45pm 

 

Visiting with children and want to know more about Avebury? People can join a tour on Wednesdays and Sundays during school holidays to learn more about this amazing site as a family.  

Visitors are asked to sign up and get your ticket from visitor reception in the barn. Tickets cost £2.50 per child, with their adults going free.

There is limited capacity and tickets are offered on a first come, first served basis. Tours are subject to volunteer availability.

Landscape walk – Waden Hill, 25 April 1.30-4pm 

 

The Waden Hill circuit takes in some of the Neolithic monuments which make up this ancient and intriguing landscape.

The volunteer guide will help people to unlock the past by explaining the history of the landscape as they walk. Begin at Avebury and walk along the Winterbourne towards Silbury Hill, up Waden Hill and back via the West Kennet Avenue.

Landscape walk – East of Avebury circuit - 23 May 1.30-4pm 

 

A knowledgeable volunteer guide will help people to unlock the past by explaining the history of the landscape as they walk.

As a World Heritage Site, the archaeologically rich landscape of Avebury has long been recognised as holding the key to our past.

People can discover more of the landscape's history on this walk of around two miles which takes in part of Avebury stone circle, prehistoric round barrows and West Kennet Avenue.

With beautiful vistas and wide open skies, they can also enjoy the stunning scenery.

Trust10 trail runs at Avebury - Every fourth Sunday of the month 9-11am 

 

A spokesperson said: "Join us at Avebury on the fourth Sunday of every month between April-October for a free, 10k trail run with stunning views across the wider Avebury landscape.

"Registration is from 8.45am at the Coach House on Avebury High Street, next to the Red Lion pub. The Trust10 run will begin at 9am.

"Please remember to bring a water bottle. There is a free drinking water tap available at the finish."

Price: Free (car parking charges apply for non-members). Booking not required.
