Your Heart in Rhythm with God's is the title of a new book by retired Swindon doctor Stephen Brooke.
The author says he has poured his whole career's learning and his whole life's experience into the work, which examines the less well-known links between the heart and the human spirit.
Dr Brooke was a GP at the Victoria Cross surgery in Swindon for 26 years, 10 of them as a Senior Partner. He also did a weekly session at the Salvation Army hostel in the town.
A trainer for the Willows Counselling Service for 25 years, teaching the Mental Health module, Dr. Brooke also gave medical support to a number of Swindon-based companies before his recent retirement, including the Bible Society.
For a number of years after the end of the Cold War, Dr. Brooke was also part of a team of volunteers regularly visiting impoverished regions in Romania, supplying vital medicines and medical advice.
The foreword to Your Heart in Rhythm with God's was provided by University of Cambridge theologian Christopher Barder, who writes: "I have been impressed and feel fully justified in recommending all sorts of readers to embark on the journey and exploration which this book invites."
Dr Brooke says Your Heart In Rhythm With God's looks at the possibility of a more abundant life through heart-focused living, and looks to take the reader on a journey that includes modern science, the Bible, philosophical positions and medical advice - where care of our physical hearts also blends with our emotional health.
The book also examines how the heart interacts with other bodily organs and also with our lives on a broader level.
Copies of Your Heart In Rhythm With God's are available on Amazon now and in the future should be in selected bookshops.
