Strictly Come Dancing trumpeter comes to Old Town's Royal Oak for some jazz magic

The Royal Oak, Old Town ‘Jazz On The Corner’ – 12th February – Tom & Simon Gardner play Brothers Candoli.

Lead trumpeter of Dave Arch’s BBC Strictly Come Dancing band Simon Gardner brings his brand-new project with his brother and fellow trumpeter Tom to the Royal Oak on Tuesday.

Simon has performed with some of the biggest names in music such as Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, and Barbra Streisand.

Audiences are promised a trumpet led spectacular playing swinging’ West Coast’ arrangements from legendary brothers Pete and Conti Candoli.

The Candoli brothers were some of the most prolific Jazz musicians in history, playing with all the major Jazz artists such as Sammy Davis Jr, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan.  Younger brother Conti was a member of ‘The Tonight Show’ band on Johnny Carson’s chat show, and played in all of Frank Sinatra’s TV specials.

Organiser Evie Em-Jay said ‘‘This is an unmissable performance and a real treat for an intimate Jazz Club. David Newton, the award-winning pianist who joins us for this performance, actually performed with the Candoli brothers in Wiltshire in the 1990’s’’

The band also feature Denny Ilett on Guitar, Will Harris on Double Bass and Mark Whitlam on Drums.  

Entry is free and the first set is at 8pm.
