Young singers perform with Stax recording star Sam Moore at Wiltshire Festival

Music mad youngsters at West Swindon's secondary school in Grange Park had the chance of a lifetime to rehearse and perform with soul legend Sam Moore at the Wiltshire Festival Party in the Park in Lydiard Park on 15 August 1998.

Sam is famous for recording hits like Soul Man and Hold on I'm Coming for The Stax label in the 1960s and he later appeared in The Blues Brothers film. In 2017 Sam performed the hits at a Stax Night Prom Concert in the Albert Hall.

Moore and fifty Greendown students opened the show in the park, with Samantha Jenner and Gemma Whitmarsh stepping forward to sing beside him. Afterward, Samantha said: "Sam is such a nice man; he really encouraged us and made us feel good about performing on that big stage. It was a fantastic experience for all of us."

The festival also included a Classical Night and a Country Music day with the late Glenn Campbell topping the bill.

Were you in the show with Sam Moore, or in the crowd during the the three memorable music festival days in Lydiard Park?
