The first, unnamed, newsletter distributed to the first houses in West Swindon in December 1978

In December 1978 the first edition of a newsletter - without a masthead - was delivered through 600 doors in Swindon's Western Expansion Area, as it was then known. Most of the houses occupied were in Toothill, where the first people had arrived from April 1976, as well as about 30 in Freshbrook.

It received a title in the second edition and over the next four decades, Swindon Link became a consistent presence in homes across the West Swindon, and the expansion area to the north of the town.

It switched from being a newsletter printed eight times a years to a professionally produced monthly publication run by Roger and Ruth Ogle in April 1987. On their retirement the business was bought by James Phipps in 2014 and two further editions were launched covering Old Town and South Swindon and also East Swindon under the editorial guidance of Jamie Hill. On 30 November 2018, ownership of the business transferred to, pictured third from right in the main photograph.
