A man was arrested in Swindon last night (25/03) following a report of a suspected burglary which led to the discovery of a cannabis factory.

Police received a call from a member of the public reporting suspicious activity at an address in Winifred Street at approximately 5pm.

Officers attended the address and located a cannabis factory inside the building consisting of approximately 300 plants.

A cordon was put in place at the address while the factory was dismantled and the plants destroyed.

A local man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and he remains in custody at Gablecross this morning.

Insp Steve Love said: “I would like to thank the vigilant member of the public who reported their concerns to us immediately, which enabled us to attend quickly, cordon off the premises and make an arrest.

“Our enquiries into the incident are still very much ongoing at this time, but I would urge anyone who has concerns about suspicious activity at a property in their neighbourhood to report their concerns to police so action can be taken.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200029718.
