A man was arrested in Swindon yesterday following a car chase.

Shortly before 8pm, officers attempted to stop a Vauxhall Astra in Shrivenham Road.

The Astra failed to stop for officers and continued to be driven through a bus gate into Greenbridge Retail Park where a pursuit began throughout the Parks area.

During this time, the vehicle was driven at excess speed, through red lights and across fields with no lights on.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle which was then found abandoned in the car park near a block of flats

A search of an address within the flats was carried out and the keys to the vehicle were found. A 31-year-old man, believed to be the driver, was found in the hallway.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

A search of the vehicle was then carried out and items were located which suggested the vehicle was being used to supply drugs including cash, mobile phones and drug paraphernalia.

The man was then further arrested for being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

He remains in custody at Gablecross while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident should call police on 101.
