Swindon Town vs Colchester Utd
Tuesday 17th September 2019
Swindon Town: 0, Colchester Utd: 3

Swindon town fell to their second 3-0 defeat at the hands of Colchester this season as they fell without a fight in this midweek clash at the County Ground.

Colchester carried out their game plan to the letter as they neutralised another good start from Swindon to very little effect. The opening 25 minutes of the game saw Swindon have a large majority of possession and territory. The closest Town came to testing the Colchester keeper came in the eighth minute. Town striker Eoin Doyle unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot from 30 yards out which unfortunately narrowly flew past the top corner of Colchester's goal.

As the game grew on, Colchester began to ask some questions of Town. Frank Nouble was inches away from giving Colchester the lead in the 32nd minute had a Cohen Bramall cross found him. Just before the break Colchester got their opener as a carbon copy of the opening goal between these teams in the EFL cup was repeated at the County Ground. Tom Eastman once again lost his marker and made it 1-0 going into the break with a looping header from a corner. Colchester should've been going into the break 2 up as ex robin Theo Robinson lashed over from 12 yards out.

Town nearly scored the first of the second half as Eoin Doyle saw his effort fall just wide of the post. But then in the 55th minute Colchester had their second of the evening and Theo Robinson had his goal against his old club. It came after some good build up play found Colchester nearing the Town goal then Theo Robinson did the rest when the ball was squared to him. He had time and space to fire the ball straight at Luke McCormick who blundered the ball into the net. Rob Hunt replied with Town's only shot on target of the game as his powerful shot found a good save from the Colchester keeper.

In the 75th minute the Essex outfit wrapped up to the game when Theo Robinson capitalised on Frank Nouble's quick turn of pace past Tom Broadbent. Nouble then found his teammate who smartly finished into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. From there on in like most the game Swindon huffed and puffed but it was to no prevail as Colchester took all 3 points back to the East coast.
Another midweek game to forget for Wellens and his men as they were leggy and outmuscled. Town will have to return to their best on Saturday as they travel to Colin Calderwood's in form Cambridge side.
