A celebrity martial artist who recently appeared on Rich House Poor House has vowed to offer Swindon parents a free paediatric resuscitation course after an incident involving his son.
Matt Fiddes, the former bodyguard of Micheal Jackson, had to perform resuscitation on his 18-month-old son Hero when he stopped breathing at his Bassett Down home on 8 October.
Despite an immediate 999 call, the Fiddes family claim paramedics took around 21 minutes to reach their front door – which is just a short drive from Junction 16 of the M4.
Following the incident, Matt Fiddes has confirmed that he’s in the process of arranging a free paediatric resuscitation course locally. The event is designed for parents to learn the basics of performing CPR on their children while awaiting an ambulance.
Matt Fiddes said: “Government cuts are clearly affecting our emergency services, and whilst I cannot change that, I can do something to support families when a tragic event strikes.
“I will be putting on a free paediatric resuscitation learning event in Swindon in the very near future, offering the chance for local parents to attend and learn how to save the life of a child.
“Whether your family is out in the sticks without access to a mobile phone or at home waiting for medics to arrive, having these key emergency first aid skills will save lives.”
The event will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic College in November, but a date is yet to be confirmed.
