This half term, Oxford Castle & Prison invite aspiring wizards to learn sorcery skills from the great Merlin!

Oxford Academy of Magic will open its doors in the castle’s 900 year old crypt, reputedly the site in which the stories of Merlin, King Arthur and Camelot were first penned. Young apprentices will decorate their own magic wand and potion bottle before blending magical mixtures and making sludgy slime. The hour-long Wizardry Workshops run daily at 10am from Monday 28th May to Friday 1st June. The activities are open to children of all ages. Accompanying parents or guardians can attend for free.

Why not follow your workshop with a guided tour? Oxford Castle & Prison is located on the former site of HMP Oxford but has stood as a Castle for 1000 years. The attraction offers regular 40-minute guided tours which explain the origins of Oxford and the role the Castle played in the city’s rich history. Visitors explore the Saxon stone-built St. George’s Tower, the atmospheric crypt, the preserved prison wing and the ancient man-made mound offering breath-taking views of Oxford. Tours are £11.50 for adults and £7.95 for children.
