An all-day tournament featuring netballers from across Swindon has raised £3,071 for Prospect Hospice’s Feel good-a-thon.

On Sunday 29 January, netballers of all abilities and ages took part in activities designed to raise sponsorship for the local hospice. Around 400 players attended the 12 hour marathon, which included walking netball tournaments, junior league matches, a fastnet tournament and a mixed netball tournament, as well as fancy dress. The players were cheered throughout the day by friends and family.

Organiser Mo Squires said: “I was so proud to see the Swindon Netball community turning out in force, with around 400 boys, girls, men and women participating in the 12-hour netball marathon event in aid of the Prospect Hospice. It was great to see players whose ages ranged from eight to eighty,  of all abilities and fitness levels, just  having fun together, raising  a fantastic amount for a very worthy cause. Prospect Hospice provides much needed care and comfort to people at the most difficult time, and so many of us within Swindon Netball have witnessed the important work this charity does.

"I’d like to thank Burmah NC, Purton NC, Lynn Tomlin, Sharon O’Neill, Lynne Watkins, Tracy Watt and all of the umpires for volunteering to help organise and run this event at such short notice. This event would not have been possible without the enthusiasm, dedication and strong community spirit that is such a big part of Swindon Netball."

Louise Brooks, Prospect Hospice fundraiser, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Maureen and everyone that helped and took part in the netball tournament, and who made it such a success. We are so grateful for all the hard work and effort that went into such a brilliant event.”

The Netball tournament was held as part of Prospect Hospice’s Feel Good-a-thon, which encourages people to take on challenges throughout the month of January to feel good and to help Prospect Hospice help their patients feel good too. Supporters who would like to take part in the Feel Good-a-thon in January 2018 are advised to contact the fundraising team on [email protected].
