A new community radio station based in Royal Wootton Bassett will be launching on 31 December with a free party at Charrins bar in the town centre.

Bassett 104.2FM is being operated by local people under the 2004 Ofcom community radio initiative. Volunteer roles are open for anyone looking to get involved in radio including commercial production, producing, reporting/broadcast journalism, general presentation, specialist music show presentation, events management, sales and promotions.

Robert Chesterman from Bassett 104.2 said: "The station isn't on FM yet as we need to provide two months of reports to Ofcom as an internet station to prove there is a demand for the station in the local community, which we are hopeful of achieving.

"With the support we have from the Tall Media networking group we are confident that our plans for a new youth club and this station online will move forward in 2017 and be something for the community to rally behind."

Was this fact checked? There are currently 244 community licenses in the UK, not 20.

I can find no evidence of an application or community licence grant for this station with Ofcom. I also can't find any RSLs listed for the January launch.

The details on their website seem very sketchy indeed.

Got to say, it does very suspect, all of the programmes on the presenters website are just pure fantasy. Is this somebody who is deluded, or someone who is out to con people.

Hello im robert we arnt launching on fm we are going to open online only. A station cannot got fm untill ofcom agrees and sees evidence of a station making success the only reason we have fm in the name is due to us already having plans and busniss plans in plave for it to be fm .. but again the station cant go fm unless we have followship and listeners. Sorry if anyone is confused its just a local internet radio run and presented by local people nothing more.
