The Post Office in Cavendish Square, Swindon, was targeted by thieves attempting to steal an ATM machine on Saturday.
The incident happened at approximately 5.30am on November 10 – the alarm system at the premises was activated when an offender, or offenders, broke in to the store and attempted to gain access to the back of an ATM machine with a number of tools.
They failed in their attempts to break open the ATM, and it is believed they were disturbed, and fled the scene. A number of tools were left behind and it is not believed anything else within the store was stolen.
PC Emma Keatings said: “An investigation is being carried out into this incident and enquiries already carried out have ascertained that the tools left at the scene have originated from a high value theft in another force area where approximately £20,000 of tools were taken. They included hydraulic metal cutters, crow bars and screwdrivers. They will be returned to the owners.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Cavendish Square area early on Saturday morning and in particular, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw two men running towards the rear of the Post Office carrying a black satchell or any vehicles driving away.”
