A Swindon-born Australian author is making his mark with tales of a Swindon detective.
A L Masters is - a pseudonym - was born in Pinehurst, and later lived in Penhill and the Lawns.
He was educated at Penhill Infants School, Penhill Junior School and Headlands before leaving home for university. He emigrated to Australia in the 1970s and lives in Sydney.
His crime stories centre around Detective Winston Leonard Spencer Hargreaves – Spence to everyone from the lowly PC to the Chief Constable – and his close-knit team.
The character was himself born and educated in Swindon, and lives in Old Town. His daughter lives in North Swindon and his closest confidant is the headmaster of an academy in the Cirencester area.
The crimes Spence and his team investigate occur in Swindon and parts of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. His investigations lead him further afield as stories develop.
The first “Spence Hargreaves” novel is Malicious Obsession, the second Delusions of Grandeur and the third Evil of Virtue, which will be available in March.
