An outpouring of good wishes was prompted by the announcement that The Baguette Bar in Prospect Place is to close.
Owner Brenda Ronayne announced in a note attached to a window that Friday 1 March would be its last day of trading.
The heartfelt message said that the business had been in Prospect Place for 31 years, and added: "I would like to thank all customers, old and new, for their continued support.
"Also a huge thank you to all of the people who have worked here."
Nestled at the opposite end of Prospect Place from the local BBC Radio headquarters, The Baguette Bar was once only a few doors away from another iconic local business, grocer and general store Workman's.
When Workman's closed after 57 years in 2002, The Baguette Bar was given the unique recipe for fondly-remembered local delicacy Workman's Ham.
News of The Baguette Bar's closure, which has been blamed on increasing costs, was greeted with dismay and dozens of fond messages on local social media.
