A man who stole an electric bike in Swindon town centre has been jailed.
Timothy Charlie Ryan, 24, of Gerard Walk, Grange Park, Swindon was arrested on May 28 after the £500 bike was reported stolen in the Parade on May 26.
He was remanded in custody and appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Monday where he was sentenced to 24 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay the victim £320 in costs.
PC Grant Hesketh, from the South Central Neighbourhood Policing team, said: “The victim in this case had only left his bike unattended for a very short period of time before it was stolen.
“We worked swiftly with our partners from Swindon Borough Council Waterside CCTV to identify Ryan and were again notified by Waterside on Sunday of his presence in Havelock Square. He was swiftly located and arrested for the offence.
“Ryan has only recently been released from prison and is already offending, therefore I welcome the courts sentence in sending him back to prison. This case is an example of the work we continue to do within Swindon town centre to target anyone committing crime and the action that will follow.
“Please may I remind the public if you are coming in to the town centre with your bike to use a durable lock that is not easily broken and to record any frame numbers on the bike when purchasing it.”
