MP for South Swindon, Robert Buckland, is warning people to be alert to Coronavirus phishing scams.

Cyber attackers are taking advantage of the widespread concern about the virus to lure people into phishing traps, which include " Coronavirus - Click on this link to find out the number of people affected in your area" If you click on the link, it then infects your computer with a virus.

There are also fake links relating to unreleased cures for Coronavirus. One example describes a ‘confidential cure solution’ before giving users the option to follow a link through to a fake website asking for credentials.

Phishing attacks are untargeted, mass emails sent to many people asking for sensitive information (such as bank details) or encouraging them to visit a fake website.

Robert commented: “It is well worth reading the National Cyber Centre’s suspicious email advice to learn more about spotting and dealing with phishing scams  https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/suspicious-email-actions

“To find out more about Coronavirus, please visit the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
