Water spewed down Eastcott Hill this morning after a water pipe was breached by contractors working on CityFibre Broadband infrastructure.

Some homes in the neighbourhood reported having no supply as a Thames Water team was called in to investigate and begin a repair.
Water from the damaged pipe filled a deep hole in the road opposite to the junction with North Street before coursing for dozens of yards down the hill.
CityFibre and its contractors, CG Utilities, have been subjected to intense criticism on social media and in complaints to councillors and officials since the Eastcott infrastructure project began some weeks ago.
They have been accused of failing to display accurate signage, imposing confusing diversions, failing to end at least one road closure at the promised time and failing to protect the safety of pedestrians.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We are responding to a burst water main on Eastcott Road in Swindon, which was unfortunately caused when a third party hit our pipe.

“Our engineers are currently on site carrying out the repair, which we expect to complete later today. Our team have had to shut the mains, whilst carrying out the repair, leaving fourteen properties without water.

"Bottled water has been provided to the affected customers and we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“At present, we are not aware of a wider customer impact, but we’d encourage local residents to reach out to us if they are experiencing low pressure or no water.

"They can contact us via our website www.thameswater.co.uk or by calling 0800 316 9800."

CityFibre has been approached for comment.
