Swindon Borough Council's Cabinet will meet later today - 20 September - to agree to make Swindon an official City of Sanctuary.
The City of Sanctuary movement is a national initiative to create a network of towns and cities throughout the UK which are proud to be places of safety and inclusion for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.
A council spokesperson said: "Swindon has a proud history of supporting migrants over many decades, including most recently those who have fled Ukraine.
"In recognition of this, the Council’s Cabinet will meet to agree to make Swindon a ‘Borough of Sanctuary’ for those fleeing violence and persecution in their own countries."
If the move is approved, the council will work with the City of Sanctuary movement as well as local voluntary and statutory partners to obtain the City of Sanctuary Award.
