A hundred wraps of Class A drugs seized and two arrested in Walcot

Two people were arrested on suspicion of drug offences this morning after concerns were raised for the occupant of an address in Walcot, Swindon.

At approximately 9.45am this morning officers carried out a welfare check at the address in Queens Drive.

Two people were seen leaving the address by officers. They were stop searched nearby under the Misuse of Drugs Act and approximately 100 wraps of class A drugs were seized. It is estimated that the drugs seized had a street value of £1,000. A further £1,000 in cash was also seized.

A 16-year-old male and a 22-year-old man both from London were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. They are currently in custody at Gablecross police station.

The address has previously been subject to a partial closure notice to safeguard the occupant and protect them from county line activity. At the end of this order, a suspended possession order was granted with similar conditions to the closure order. Today’s arrests have breached the conditions of the order.

To ensure safeguarding of the occupants at the address, which include young children, a further closure order will be sought in Swindon Magistrates Court later this week.

This will enable police and partner agencies to have lawful access to the address to prevent further exploitation.

Sergeant David Tippetts said: “Vulnerable people within Swindon continue to be exploited by county lines drug networks placing themselves and, in this case, their children at risk.

"We have responded to this report swiftly and as well as dealing with the criminal offences, we have acted promptly to provide safeguarding and prevent further offences from being committed.

"We will be working closely with partner agencies to resolve the issues around this particular address whilst the order is in place.”
