As the total UK coronavirus death toll rises by another 359 people to 39,728, Prime Minister Boris Johnson fronted today's coronavirus daily briefing.

The Prime Minister begins by announcing that he will be hosting a global vaccine summit tomorrow as there 'must be effective international actioin to reduce the impact of the virus'.

He says as the weather gets worse that people will be tempted to move gatherings from outdoors to indoors. He tells people not to do that as there is much less risk of transmission outside.

Johnson said that he would not give people holiday advice but everybody should avoid non-essential travel at the moment. He said: "Now that we're getting the virus under control in the UK, there is a risk that cases from abroad begin once again to make up a greater proportion of overall cases. We therefore need to take steps now to manage that risk of these imported cases triggering a second peak." The advice from Monday is that anyone entering the country will need to self-isolate and there will be spot checks to ensure that people are. The Government is exploring the possibility of 'travel corridors' with countries with low rates of coronavirus.

On the George Floyd protests he states that we all mourn George Floyd and he was appalled and sickened by what happened to him. His message to Trump is that racist violence has no place in society. People have the right to protest. But they should do so peacefully and try to adhere to social distancing measures at the same time.
