Pools, gyms, team sports, tattooists and outdoor gigs set to return in latest lockdown easing guidance

A Downing Street briefing today held by Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said the UK was now ready to start reintroducing some leisure activities.

In the coming weeks leisure facilities and beauty services, such as nail bars and tattooists, will be able to open their doors again and team sports like cricket will also be allowed to resume.

Outdoor performances will also be allowed to return but with limited audiences.

The Government has published guidance for the reopening of sports facilties including cleaning regimes, social distancing and protection for staff. Other measures include limiting the number of people in the facility at one time, reducing class sizes and spacing out equipment.

Small numbers of supporters will also be able to watch outdoor performances and sports as long as social distancing measures are followed.

According to today's briefing:

- From 13 July, beautificians, tattooists, spas, tanning salons and other close contact services can reopen subject to strict guidance

- Grassroots sports like cricket will be able to return from this weekend. And outdoor theatre and other cultural performances will be able to start from Saturday.

- Indoor gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities can re-open from 25 July.

- Outdoor pools can reopen from 11 July.

The Government also announced that they would be carrying out small pilots of indoor performances, with socially distanced audiences, to work out the way forward.
