All Parish Clerks in Wiltshire have received an invitation to enter the CPRE Wiltshire’s Best Kept Village Competition.

Entries are encouraged from villages large, medium and small across the county – and anyone from a village can enter. People do not have to be a member of a parish council to submit an entry for your village.

CPRE Wiltshire Branch Chair Anne Henshaw, said: “As usual, we’re excited to be launching the competition again this year, and are hoping for many entries.

"Wiltshire has many well-presented villages within the county and I know how much previous winners value the recognition this competition brings.”

Anyone in a village can pull an entry together and coordinate preparations for judging – it doesn’t have to be led by the parish council. All entrants need to submit is one form, a map and a short village report and to let their parish council know they are entering.

Entries need to be in to CPRE Wiltshire no later than 17th April.

Wiltshire Council is joining forces with its contractor idverde to sponsor CPRE Wiltshire’s Best Kept Village competition for 2025. Additional sponsorship is provided by the Renelec Group, which provides specialised services to the construction industry and are sponsoring the 2025 Best Newcomer Award.

Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways and Street Scene at Wiltshire Council, said: "The Best Kept Village Competition is a great opportunity for our residents to build a sense of community by working together to protect and preserve the environment, whether it’s by organising litter collections, sweeping footpaths or cleaning bus shelters.

"I encourage everyone, whether they live in small rural village or one of our larger villages to get involved in this year's competition - every effort counts!

“We are delighted to be involved with sponsoring this year’s event and we look forward to seeing all of the entries."

The judges consider presentation throughout the village – tidiness, absence of litter and evidence of community spirit and involvement – but do not award marks for the beauty of buildings as then the same villages might win every time.

Last year’s winners were Ashton Keynes, Upper and Lower Seagry and Hankerton.  The Winner of the Winners was Urchfont.

The first round of judging in the 2025 competition will take place from 12 May to 8 June.
