Today's briefing was hosted by Health Secretary Matt Hancock who revealed that there have been a further 111 deaths of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours - the lowest number since the lockdown began. This brings the total UK death toll to 39,045. It should be mentioned though that after weekends there is a reporting delay from some NHS Trusts so that could have had some affect on the low number.

Mr Hancock also revealed that 128,437 tests were carried out yesterday with a further 1,570 confirmed cases of covid-19. This is the lowest it has been since 25 March, which was two days after the lockdown was announced.

The health secretary stated that The Government now has the capacity now to carry out 206,444 test per day. This means that anyone who needs a test should get one.

He also outlined that the track and trace system is working well since it was launched last Thursday with 7,500 clinicians in the system which means six for every new case. People who are being contacted are responding positively when being asked to self-isolate.
