Conservatives retain Swindon Borough Council

Early results of yesterday's Swindon Borough Council elections show the Conservatives retaining overall control.

The party needed to win only two of the 19 contested seats for this to happen.
Central Ward is a Conservative gain, Anabelle Pegado securing 1,983 votes.
Labour candidate Junab Ali received 1,819 and Liberal Democrat Hannah Pajak 236.
The Tories have retained Blunsdon and Highworth, with Steven Weisinger receiving 1,715 votes, Labour's Lesley Ann Gow 1,024 and Green Andrew Day 457.
In Penhill and Upper Stratton, Labour's Claire Crilly was victorious with 1,336 votes, with Conservative Ola Ibitoye receiving 1,068 and Liberal Democrat Michelle Horrobin 177.

In Rodbourne Cheney, Labour's William Stone won with 1,604 votes, while Conservative Omkar Munagala received 1,040 and Green Roderick Hebden-Leeder 197.
In Wroughton and Wichelstowe, Conservative David Martyn won with 1,134 votes while Liberal Democrat Adam Poole secured 734, Labour's Sam James 382 and the Green Party's Pippa Fairbourn 240.
In Covingham and Dorcan, Conservative Kevin Parry won with 1,846 votes while Labour's Tomas Silberberg secured 895, Liberal Democrat Geoffrey King 199 and Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate Scott Hunter 78.
In Old Town, Labour's Nadine Watts won with 2,032 votes, Conservative Sumon Roy received 868 votes, Green Bill Hughes 197 and Liberal Democrat Martin Wiltshire 154.
